This past Thursday (October 29), Medigate and CI Security co-hosted a webinar, entitled CI Security and Medigate Share Insights 2020. Although the webinar was initially organized to share details of CI Security’s recently published Healthcare Data Breach Report, the presentation took a timely turn, as the breaking news surrounding Ryuk obliged a change to everyone’s plans. Interestingly, CI’s Report cites a reduction in criminal activity associated with the black market for stolen PPI, but it is eerily spot-on in projecting an uptick in ransomware attracts.
Given the Ryuk warning published the day before by the Department of Homeland Security’s Cybersecurity and Infrastructure Security Agency (CISA), the Federal Bureau of Investigation (FBI), and the Department of Health and Human Services, panel experts spent the webinar’s first half hour discussing Ryuk in the aforementioned context. In addition, the audience was provided detailed insights about the threat and how to manage it.
CI Security specializes in the protection and defense of healthcare-critical networking infrastructure, so the panel was well up to speed. Joined by Drex DeFord, CI’s Healthcare Strategist and Jake Milstein, CI’s Chief Marketing Officer, CI’s CISO, Mike Hamilton, set the stage, teeing up a “Ryuk-infused” demonstration delivered by Medigate’s senior solutions engineer Randy Guerette. Among other related capabilities shown, Randy covered how Medigate’s platform detects and prevents ransomware of all types, including Ryuk.
